Geotechnical Support (Shoreline Stabilization and Surface Restoration) ----------------------------------------- PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS — WSP is actively supporting BASF with design support and stakeholder consultation services for an ongoing habitat restoration project on islands in a river setting. The overarching goal of the project is to identify ways to improve the long-term physical and chemical stability of the islands through a combination of shoreline improvement and the construction of offshore breakwaters. — The project highlights WSP’s ability to engage a highly experienced, multi-disciplinary geotechnical, geochemical and hydrogeological team to a complex site. — An interesting aspect of this project is the evaluation of a BASF product (Elastocoast) as a potential component in the final design as well as for use in other WSP projects. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Facility Decommissioning ----------------------------------------- PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS — WSP has provided support to BASF at two facility decommissioning projects in the past few years which included conducting staged investigations to identify and quantify the presence of any environmental issues as well as tot develop a Conceptual Site Model of the properties to identify potential exposure pathways and receptors. — We then set up and led meetings between BASF and regulatory agencies to reach agreement on the scope of the decommissioning activities, and followed that with converting that into a scope of work for the demolition contractors. — While the demolition contractor was hired directly by BASF in these cases, WSP developed the decontamination/ closure procedures for the contractor including the management of hazardous building materials. We provided oversight of the demolition work and the post-demolition residual waste removal activities. — All of the work – by WSP and the demolition contractors – was completed without a single health and safety incident. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sediment Remediation ----------------------------------------- PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS — WSP has been hired to conduct a Pre-Design Investigation, Design and Construction Remedy for a 100 Ha floodplain including a 40-Ha pond containing contaminated sediments. This multi-year project has included two years of site characterization work which has largely been completed at this time and required the support of 180 staff and 30 contractors, providing over 35,000 hours, all without a single health and safety incident — Over 2,000 samples of surface water, soil, sediment, weather, water levels, fish and other biota were used to refine the understanding of the scale of the contamination and the of the physical challenges to be overcome during the implementation of the remedy. — The work is now transitioning to design work, feasibility and pilot-scale studies, and to be followed by the full-scale construction of the remedial solution -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
