Client: Halifax Harbour Bridges Location: Halifax-Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Core Services: Independent check of superstructure replacement staging, troubleshooting main cable dehumidification system • Main span 1,447 ft (441 m), opened 1955, ADT 44,000. • This innovative complete superstructure and suspender rope replacement project used overnight and weekend traffic closures to exchange existing deck and stiffening trusses with new superstructure and roadway deck. The project raised the underclearance for navigational traffic by 3 ft (1 m). WSP performed the independent check of the structural work, including the complex staging of the replacement of deck sections. Award winning project. • A new main cable wrapping / sealing / dehumidification system was designed and installed, but was inoperable. WSP was called in to independently troubleshoot the system and quickly brought it back into operation; WSP also provided the design for appropriate dehumidification upgrades.
Department of Transportation Location: Đà Nẵng, Vietnam Core Services: Preliminary and Final Design • This cable-stayed bridge spans the Hàn River in the city of Đà Nẵng and opened 2013. It has an overall length of 2,398 ft (731 m) with a main span of 754 ft (230 m). Its single inclined tower is 476 ft (145 m) tall and cables fan out from each side. The bridge has six vehicular lanes and two pedestrian sidewalks. • The inclined towers are constructed of concrete due to its ready availability in Vietnam. • Due to the weight of the tower and superstructure, the tower bearings are among the biggest spherical bearings ever fabricated.
