Parameters Reference
This reference page lists the required parameters for parametric Bridge and Drainage structure components.
About Parameters To model parametric parts in Autodesk Inventor, your 2D sketches and 3D extrusions must be constrained by geometric dimensions. All of these geometric dimensions, also known as constraints, are displayed in the Parameters dialog in Autodesk Inventor. You can create new parameters, rename existing parameters, and change the value of an existing parameter by editing the sketch dimension or the feature. You can also modify parameters and their values using the Parameters dialog. All the parameters that you configure for a part in Autodesk Inventor are included in a XML file when you use the Infrastructure Part Shape Utilities tools to export a shape template. Note: The XML parameters file is required when you import a shape template into the Infrastructure Parts Editor or the InfraWorks Style Palette. You can define parameters in Inventor as numeric parameters, text parameters, or true/false parameters, although only numeric parameters support expressions. You can also use parameters to run equations and iLogic rules in Autodesk Inventor. However, when creating parametric content for civil infrastructure design in Autodesk InfraWorks and Autodesk Civil 3D, you will primarily use numeric parameters to define dimensions for your parts. Tip: If you use the same parameters in many parts, you can create a template file that contains those parameters. Save your parameter template files in the Inventor Template folder to use your templates when creating new part files. Required parameters The content that you create in Autodesk Inventor for use in Autodesk InfraWorks and Autodesk Civil 3D has different required parameters depending on the content domain category and part class. If you open an existing part from the library, navigate to the Part Editing tab. In the Part Editing table, look for any column that has a "*" or a "**" prefix. The single asterisk "*" indicates that a parameter is a geometry parameter that is required, and has been marked as a 'key' parameter in Autodesk Inventor. The double asterisk "**" indicates that parameter is based on a calculation or iLogic. Any parameter with a single asterisk will also have a tooltip explaining the parametric value if you hover your cursor over the column header. Based on the domain and part class, you may need to configure different key parameters in Autodesk Inventor for your parametric bridge components, road decorations,
