Introduction As part of the Monroe County Transit Study, the Monroe County Planning Department has inquired as to the impact increased bus service in the US 1 corridor would have on potential general traffic reduction. The WSP team evaluated the impact doubling the service frequency on the Miami-Dade Express Route 301 would have on the most congested northern portion of the corridor. Route 301 is the most extensive transit service in the US 1 corridor, with the highest patronage. Mile Marker 84 (Upper Matecumbe) was chosen as the roadway segment to be analyzed, given it represents the worst level of service (E) in the corridor, and with an hourly breakdown of traffic volume being available at that location. The traffic volume data and LOS information came from the US 1 Arterial Travel Time and Delay Study from April 2023. Analysis The MM 84 traffic volume from March 13-19, 2023 is shown on the attached figure. It shows a peak period from 10 AM to 5 PM, reflecting the high volume of recreational traffic in this section of the corridor, and experiencing the worst traffic congestion. During this period, the Route 301 operates with headways of 45-60 minutes. With over-the-road coaches providing the Route 301 express service, with passenger capacity limited to seated passengers, it is assumed that up to 40 passengers per bus trip in each direction are being carried. With a doubling of service on Route 301 to 20 – 30-minute frequency, hourly bus passenger capacity was assumed to increase to 80 in each direction. The increase
